Reflejos - Reflections

RESURRECTION BY APOCALYPTICA
(PERTTU KIVILAAKSO)

That morning caught Bartolomeo making its way into the luminous mist that slipped away through every spot of the Forest of Mirrors. Dry Leaves were throwing themselves to the void in the presence of the imposing look of the silent trees; lots of them stuck to the naked arms of that Firefly Eyes who was groping so as not to leave the trace of his luminous look.

He was walking without a break because no place was far enough from de Kingdom of Tears. Resist, resist… he keep on repeating to himself being aware that his powers hadn't any connection with his extreme intentions. Very soon his legs sank into the humid soil and from his throat sprung the horrific groan of frustration. The forest completely shuddered.

Then he could smell it - the unmistakable scent of its solitary days in the Kingdom; the ticklish smell of old books and of paper that withstood for centuries the load that the ink bequeathed to them. He stuck his nose to the ground and inhaled deeply until he felt that he was suffocating; a whisper similar to the wind’s announcing a storm singed to his ear: Bartolomeo.

Bartolomeo opened his eyes and the forest had disappeared. He was sitting in the middle of a room with a scroll in his hands, and even though that worn-out paper wasn't written with words, he started to read it without any difficulty. While he moved forward through his reading the storm out there broke with all its fury, but nothing could have distracted him from Eino’s tales about a world that he didn’t known and that had always been there.

After reading the last line, Bartolomeo let out a deep sigh and let the shine of his tears to light the room completely. Then he discovered that in front of him there was a big mirror; a mirror that seemed to have life of its own. Hello, greeted Bartolomeo without saying a word, and the mirror returned de sad image of a moribund and prisoner beauty.

Bartolomeo glided his fingers through the cold glass and hold his breath.

Despedida - Farewell

FAREWELL BY APOCALYPTICA
(PERTTU KIVILAAKSO)

I joined the Firefly Eyes tribe and I’m burning in its light. How much pain there's in beauty and how much crying demands the soil to kneed one single smile!

There are sparkles of tears spreading out trough each spot of the Forest of Mirrors; the roots of the trees refuse to drink more of this saline and luminous blend and oblige my feet to sink in their fluorescent waves.

Where's the rest of my desolated tribe? Bartolomeo! Our race is extinguishing and you’re gone! Come back and bring me the comfort of the language without words that we lost so many millenniums ago.

HALL OF THE MOUNTAIN KING BY APOCALYPTICA
(EDWARD GRIEG)

The mountain King lived imprisoned in heights. His Kingdom covered everything that could be observed from the highest tower of his castle, but this couldn't be good for a King who merely saw with his eyes, the weakest zone of his majestic person.

He spent all day hanging around the palace corridors, looking at the distance in between whispers imagining what could be beyond, for not even the most ingenious inventors of his court had the cure for his sickness.

One night the King woke up with the feeling that someone had called him by his name and this caused a great anguish in his heart. He didn't remember to have a different name than Majesty and in those moments tears came to his eyes and he couldn't help it.

The Mountain King heard his name again: ‘Pablo, Pablo.’ But he was sure that nobody had talked. ‘Pablo, we are dancing in your honour in the Forest of Mirrors. Go down from that mountain and learn to see with your soul.’

King Pablo could perfectly hear the music, but he was unable to distinguish anything. ¿How could one see with the soul?

No sooner had he questioned himself than the mirror of his room gave his own reflection back, and behind it he could see the ‘Golden Hairs’ and the ‘Firefly Eyes’ in frenzied dance.

He had never seen such clear and bright colours.

‘There's no time to waste,’ whispered to his ear a Golden Hairs.

‘Look into my eyes; I'll guide you,’ told a Firefly Eyes to him, and for a few seconds he thought that he went blind faced with the power of his light.

In King Pablo's room it only remained the mirror, and in the corridors of the castle, just the memory of his imprisoned majesty.

PANDEMONIUM BY APOCALYPTICA
(PERTTU KIVILAAKSO)

Bartolomeo never liked the idea of being born human; he had a relationship of love and hate with his extreme sensitivity. Tears always were there to tempt him with their momentary delight, the same ones which had the power to glow in the dark and which were the unquestionable gift of the Firefly Eyes tribe.

While he was growing up he stayed with them, but as soon as he was old enough to clear off he did it without looking back. He thought that if he stayed away from the Firefly Eyes he would be away from the Kingdom of Tears as well. However, tears came even more frequently along his pilgrimage; lightened him with all their flashing glitter and heralded his way wherever he was going to.

Bartolomeo realized that he couldn't get rid from his roots nor from the suffer which they signified to him, but he still kept a weapon that would allow him to exorcize all his demons: the language that has no words.

That's how one day he came across Eino's writings on his way and could understand without any trouble the magnificent histories that he was telling. That's the way how Bartolomeo ‘Firefly Eyes’ arrived for the first time to the Forest of Mirrors.

'Eino y el cuarto del espejo' - 'Eino and the mirror room'

RUSKA BY APOCALYPTICA
(EICCA TOPPINEN)

Eino was contemplating his image in the mirror and the mirror was his soul. When the wind was threatening the whole world out there, the mirror room was keeping him away from the cold, but it wasn't depriving him from its autumnal symphony.

Eino took a comb and slid it through his long, blond hair while talking to the wind. Dry leaves were waving at him briefly through the window before falling down.

‘Perhaps some raindrops?,’ said loudly and left the comb aside.

‘Raindrops that make you wet but that you can hardly see…,’ murmured to his own image.

Eino knew that his time in the mirror room was limited and that he should hurry up; otherwise he would end up forgetting everything.

He rushed because he couldn’t use the words; they had no room in there.

One part of the wind slipped through the gaps of the window and landed on his shoulder to sing to him once again; and he wrote.

Another part hit his window relentlessly until it managed to go in together with its court of leaves and invisible rain.

Eino was writing without stopping, his time was running out, the leaves were sticking to his wet face; his hair wasn't blond and silky anymore because now it was part of the rain, like all his being.

Eino and the mirror room vanished with the storm. It only remained the melody he could write…
